2023 GNLC 11TH DOCTORAL SYMPOSIUM

The 2023 GNLC 11th Doctoral Symposium for current students in doctoral programs and doctoral faculty took on February 11, 2023 at Emory Nursing Learning Center, Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, Atlanta, GA. This year’s theme was on the topic of, Charting Innovative Paths for Nursing Research & Scholarship.

  • 142 doctoral students, faculty, and GNLC leaders attended this year’s GNLC 11th Annual Doctoral Symposium

  • Opening Plenary Speaker – Shannon N. Zenk, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN – The NINR Strategic Plan

  • Closing Plenary Speaker – Tim Cunningham, RN, DrPH, MSN, FAAN – The Case for Playfulness in Your Doctoral Journey

  • There were 17 podium presentations and 39 poster presentations given by doctoral students throughout Georgia

  • Students and Faculty participated in a networking session at lunch where they discussed doctoral program developments and met new faculty from universities throughout Georgia

2nd Place -- The Impact of Dog Ownership on Depression, Anxiety, and Loneliness in Community-Dwelling 55 and Older Adult Dog Owners: An Exploratory Study - Diedre Harp - PhD - University of North Georgia

3rd Place -- Knowledge and Perceptions of Alzheimer’s Disease in the African American Population - Valencia Freeman - PhD - Augusta University

1st Place -- Reducing Psychotic Relapse through Family Education: A DNP Project - Eleasa Milano - DNP - Georgia Southern University

2nd Place -- Assessing the Perceived Barriers to the Administration of Adjunctive Aromatherapy in Nurses Caring for Pediatric Patients with Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting: An Evidence-Based Practice Project - Marissa Terry - DNP - Georgia State University

3rd Place -- Implementation of a Preparatory Student Success Course for First-Year BSN Nursing Students: A Quality Improvement Project - Jherika Tyler - DNP - Georgia State University

2022 10th Doctoral Symposium

The 2022 GNLC 10th Doctoral Symposium for current students in doctoral programs and doctoral faculty took on April 2, 2022 at Tanner Health System School of Nursing, University of West Georgia, Carrollton, GA. This year’s theme was on the topic of, Advancing Health Equity through Nursing Partnerships in Research & Practice.

  • 85 doctoral students, faculty, and GNLC leaders attended this year’s GNLC 10th Annual Doctoral Symposium

  • Opening Plenary Speaker – Loretta Jackson Brown, PhD, RN, CNN – Disrupting Systems of Inequity and Injustice: Nurses have Entered the Chat

  • Plenary Speakers – Lisa Eichelberger, PhD, RN and Lucy Marion, PhD, RN, FAAN, FAANP – State and National Data on the Georgia Nursing Workforce

  • Closing Plenary Speaker – Susan Laird, DNP, MSN, RN – Lessons Learned from the Pandemic - Fast Forward

  • There were 13 podium presentations and 19 poster presentations given by doctoral students throughout Georgia

  • Faculty participated in a networking session at lunch where they discussed doctoral program developments and met new faculty from universities throughout Georgia

3rd Place -- Improving EMR Competency in First-Year Nursing Students - Laura Gosa - DNP - Georgia State University (was not available at the time to accept award)
